Wow this week has been a learning experience. I never realized how rushed I make my meal times besides dinner. It has definitely made me recognize the importance to slow down and not inhale my food. Now that my girls are all in school I eat several times a day a lone and realized I usually rush to get to the next task but when I actually slow down and spend the time to eat slower I'm more relaxed and I don't feel as hungry later. Loved this challenge!
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard for me to sit and eat! Is it because our kitchen counter has 3 barstools? Why did we do that for a family of 4? Oh, that's right.. it's because while I am cooking and cleaning they can all eat and watch me. The kitchen table has to be dusted often! It's so lonely! So this week, I actually ate before everyone else (albeit early). I didn't get to do that 5 times a day - mostly 3. My snacks are usually done in the car..aka taxi! It was definitely a challenge that I will need to keep working on!
ReplyDeleteFifteen minutes can feel like a long time. It was easy to sit for 15 minutes during meals I was eating with someone else, but I had to watch the clock when I was alone to be sure I took my time. Eating without distractions was easier for me. We have a rule in our house that we don't eat in front of the television, and I find it hard to eat and work/be on the computer at the same time anyway. Being at home with a 4 year old made these challenges relatively easy; I enjoy sitting down with Max and sharing time during meals and snacks together. It would have been a lot harder had I been at work, so I think I had an advantage there. We did go camping this weekend which made the "no containers" a real challenge.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny to realize how rushed we really are when it comes to eating. I must say that I did enjoy sitting for a few extra minutes. I kind of liked the times I was by myself too! I'm excited to keep it up.
ReplyDeleteI have had a hard time with this. I realized that I NEVER just sit and eat. I really had to work hard to make the time to eat for 15 minutes. Even at dinner I'm up and down helping the kids or getting things for them. When I sat and ate I realized that I didn't need to eat as much to feel full (learned the full feeling from last week). I also was more away of how many times I run out the door with something in my hand or eat in front of the computer or TV. That is a habit I'm breaking now!

ReplyDeleteI am definitely feeling in a groove and being so good! Rating your desire vs hunger and then fullness factor after each meal has made a huge difference for me! Really making me stop and reflect on my eating and it is changing my habits!
